Mankind is Abstract - A New Exhibition

The Distillery Gallery is proud to announce the opening of our new exhibition ‘Mankind is Abstract’

Art has always played an intrinsic role in the evolution of mankind. From ancient cave paintings and vast religious frescoes to royal portraits to folk art and graffiti, art always has and always will form a large part of our identity as humans. It creates a unique language and way to express our deepest, most complicated and profound thoughts and feelings.

Showcasing works by up and coming artists from across the globe, ‘Mankind is Abstract’ aims to travel deep into what it is to be human, through painting, photography, sculpture and moving image. Dive into the mind of a psychiatric patient in Ben Roland’s short film “I Was Never Me”, discover the lost tribes of The Amazon Rainforest through Kirsty Lang’s series “Lost in Time” and marvel at the beauty of the human body with Jim Murray’s stunning macro photography series “Minutiae”.
Exhibition director, Katherine Smith says “With ‘Mankind is Abstract’ we hope to make audiences really think about what it is to be human in the 21st Century. Too often we dismiss, or take for granted events, discoveries and moments that redefine our collective and individual experiences. This exhibition aims to give people a chance to hone in on the minute details of themselves and each other, and relearn what they thought they knew about our species.”
