The Distillery Gallery is proud to announce the opening of our new exhibition ‘Mankind is Abstract’ Art has always played an intrinsic role in the evolution of mankind. From ancient cave paintings and vast religious frescoes to royal portraits to folk art and graffiti, art always has and always will form a large part of our identity as humans. It creates a unique language and way to express our deepest, most complicated and profound thoughts and feelings. ‘A World at Your Fingertips’ (2019) from Jim Murray’s macro photography series ‘Minutiae’ Showcasing works by up and coming artists from across the globe, ‘Mankind is Abstract’ aims to travel deep into what it is to be human, through painting, photography, sculpture and moving image. As an art gallery, and as art lovers ourselves, we feel that it’s important for us to offer you, not only easy access to great art, but also the opportunity to learn more about art as a whole. We believe that even a basic understanding of art history can help deepen and enhance your experience as a viewer of art.  So we decided to start a blog series introducing you to the artists and art movements that helped shaped art as we know it today. There is an almost endless list of art movements originating from all over the globe and every period of history.
